Hensill Farmhouse is charming 19th century former gardener's cottage in the heart of the Kent High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Surrounded by farm and woodland yet 80 minutes from London and five minutes from village shops and restaurants, the farmhouse provides a peaceful escape at any time of year for a small family or group of friends seeking a rural retreat refurbished to the highest standards.
A lovely escape throughout the seasons, the sitting room has a cosy wood burning stove for winters’ evenings, and french doors open out from the kitchen to the patio area, where you can sit in the dappled shade of the mature fig tree, which bears delicious fruit in late summer. The wraparound gardens boast views of the surrounding farmland and woodland. The two bedrooms provide flexible accommodation with one featuring a zip and link bed which can be configured as super-king size or twin singles. Bedroom one benefits from an en-suite shower room, while bedroom two has use of the family bathroom.
Although tucked away down a quiet track, Hensill Farmhouse is within walking distance of a good pub and only a five-minute drive from Hawkhurst’s well-appointed High Street with a butcher, baker, pharmacy, independent cinema as well as supermarkets. The High Weald is a stunning area of England, blessed with natural beauty and steeped in centuries of fascinating history.
Young and old will delight at our local history. Stand on the site of the Battle of Hastings, scale the ramparts of the stunningly well-preserved 14th century Bodiam Castle or explore the romantic moated ruins of Scotney Castle's picturesque gardens.
Gastronomes should book in at Michelin green starred The Smallholding at Kilndown. Serving a set menu celebrating the best of regional ingredients and home grown produce, brothers Will and Matt Devlin put sustainability at the heart of everything they do.
Take a day trip to the picturesque Cinque Port of Rye. Browse the galleries and antique shops, visit historic Rye Castle, refuel at the great High Street cafes and pubs and stride out along Rye Nature Reserve or the miles of sandy beach at Camber Sands.
Outdoor enthusiasts will love the miles of well marked and maintained mountain bike, running and hiking trails through Bedgebury National Pinetum. You can rent bikes on site and reward your efforts with treats in the well stocked onsite cafe.
All good holiday cottages need a great pub within walking distance and the Eight Bells on the Moor in Hawkhurst does not disappoint. Come for the jolly atmosphere and locally sourced food and drink; settle in by the fire or in summer relax in the sunny garden.
This corner of Kent is a garden lover's paradise. See if you can get around them all, from the white garden at Sissinghurst Castle to the Arts and Crafts style at Great Dixter, to horticulture royalty Sarah Raven's own garden at Perch Hill.

Lovely quiet location and surrounding countryside with walks from the house. Easy half hour walk to a great pub. Comfortable beds and soft pillows. Nice bed linen. A full length mirror would have been good. Otherwise well equipped and comfortable.
