Hensill Farmhouse is an absolutely charming 19th century cottage surrounded by farm and woodland and would be a lovely escape at any time of year for a small family or group of friends seeking a stylish country pad with all the 21st century comforts.
The charming period appearance of the exterior is complimented by interiors impressively fully refurbished in 2020. Upon entering you'll discover an open plan living, dining and kitchen space decorated in muted creams and greens, which create a calm welcoming space. The living room is simple and elegant with comfortable seating around a cosy wood burner, perfect for keeping toasty on chilly nights with a bottle of wine and a good book or a movie on the smart TV.
The kitchen with its grass green cupboards, flagstone flooring and large range feels very farmhouse chic and there's an oak dining table perfect for four people planning to enjoy a long lazy supper. Little touches like the ornamental plates on the walls add to the charm and show a real eye for design.
The ground floor is also home to a small cosy office for those who need to catch up on work and there's a large utility room with a butler's sink and a toilet where you can dispense of muddy boots and coats.
Upstairs are two generous bedrooms with Hypnos beds, one a super-king and one a super-king which can be configured into twins if needed. Both rooms are simple and comfortable with one having the benefit of an ensuite with large shower and the other having the use of a rather fabulous family bathroom with gorgeous tiled walls, a large shower and a deep roll-top bath where you can soak in bubbles for hours should you wish.
After a good night's sleep, freshen up with the luxury toiletries from local producer Oast and Rye and head down to the kitchen for breakfast from the generous hamper of local goods. French patio doors open onto a lovely garden with a table and chairs where you can take your morning coffee beneath the fig tree with a view of the pond and the large garden which sprawls out into the woods.
If isolation is what you're after, you've got it. But if you'd like to mingle with the locals you're a pleasant half-mile walk from a great local pub, The Eight Bells, that serves good food in a friendly environment. There are lots of walks to enjoy and you're a five-minute drive from Hawkhurst's quaint High Street where you'll find plenty of shops and an independent cinema. There are several castles to visit and if you want a really special meal out then book a table at Michelin green-starred Smallholding in Kilndown, only a ten minute drive away.
